Ocean Risk Index

Climate Change and a warming ocean are creating existential threats to coastal communities. Rising tides, parasitic diseases, and increasing storm frequency and severity are increasing ocean risk far beyond traditional catastrophic loss models, where emergency response services are not funded or staffed to provide adequate protection or relief. The world will need much more granular data to evaluate ocean conditions on a daily basis to help coastal and even inland communities develop dynamic risk management strategies for short and long term protection. The Ocean Data Alliance is working with leading insurance companies to develop the Ocean Risk Index as a real-time online assessment of geographic ocean risk.
